ONE CHILD. ONE LINKED COMPANION.
Your first OWC learning routine.
Manage the routine in your browser. Run the child companion on Android.
One Word Closer connects parent-approved picture and voice cards with a child’s Android phone or tablet. This guide is for invited families; registration is not open to everyone yet.
What you need
- A supported Android phone or tablet for the child, with OWC installed using the instructions provided to your invited account.
- A parent account with a verified email address. Children do not need an email account.
- The parent app or a browser at app.onewordcloser.com. The dashboard can be used on an iPhone, tablet or computer; the cross-app child companion is Android-only.
- Internet access for sign-in, pairing, publishing and synchronisation.
Link the parent account and child device
- Sign in to the parent dashboard and create a child profile. Answer the short parent questionnaire and choose an activity level. Suggestions are not an assessment.
- On the Android device, select the child-device role and complete adult setup, including its local parent PIN.
- Generate a pairing code on the child device. Enter it in the parent dashboard for the intended profile before it expires.
- Compare the confirmation shown on both sides and confirm on the child device. One active device can be linked to each child profile.
The device PIN protects local parent settings. It is not your cloud password, and the Stop control remains available.
Approve, publish, then start
Create or choose picture cards, preview their photos and recordings, and approve them. Select cards and configure the routine’s activity, interval, permitted times and limits. Save and publish it.
On the child device, check connection and sync. Confirm that the routine is applied and complete the permissions checklist. Then choose Start learning locally. Publishing content from the dashboard does not start a session remotely.
Why does OWC ask for Android permissions?
The setup checklist explains permissions for displaying cards over supported apps, checking eligible foreground activity, accessing playback controls and showing the ongoing session notification. Microphone access is needed when recording your voice. An adult enables these through Android settings; the exact labels vary by device.
During an active session, the OWC notification provides a Stop action. Read the permissions and privacy explanation before enabling access.
Which apps and activities count?
OWC supports selected YouTube and Netflix playback, with a confirmed pause before a card appears. Playback remains paused afterwards until someone manually presses Play. In video-only timing, paused or buffering video does not advance the learning interval.
The optional home-and-browsers setting also includes the unlocked home screen, Chrome and Samsung Internet. It is not control over every game, app or system screen. Device compatibility, other active audio, calls, schedule windows and presentation limits can defer an activity.
No card appearing?
Check that learning is on, the latest routine is applied, the selected cards are approved, the permissions checklist is complete and the current time is permitted. Wait for the configured eligible interval while using a supported activity. A device report is a timestamped snapshot, not a guarantee that the session is still running.
The Progress view reports recorded interactions after synchronisation. It is not a developmental score or proof of understanding. For help, email support@onewordcloser.com; never send your password, PIN or private child media.
